Crimes Of Colour: Can You Tell What It Is Yet? - Poetry in Colour

As some of you may be aware, I like to dabble with a little bit of poetry. Some time ago I was set a poetry challenge. I had to write a poem, describing a single colour without ever mentioning that particular colour in the body of the poem. I decided on a colourful approach!

Following is the poem in question, I hope you enjoy it and wonder if you can work out which colour I was describing? Can you tell what it is yet?

Crimes Of Colour

Quicksilver quills in league

with brazen bistre bristles.

An alliance of defiance

they begin their attack.

Dripping crimson guilt

melting trails of melancholy blue.

Green gallivanting

with garish golden sunsets,

snappy yappy yellows.

Ravenous reds running riot,

a siege of sepia.

Corralling coral,

burgundy bullying,

apricot assaulting.

Invading human hands,

I diminish more.

No help from heliotrope,

mocked by laughing lavender.

Taupe taunting,

beige baying.

I am skillfully devoured.

Maroon monsoon,

puce platoon.

Fuchsia flaunting, flirting,

turquoise teasing.

Scarlet skulduggery,

vindictive violet.

I am almost gone.

Terra cotta terrorizes,

peach pursues my remains.

Azure allure,

jade jades...

I fade.

Indigo dreams,

rainbows of regret.

My perfection pulverised

my essence wet.

Even grey betrays...

I fade.

Did you get it? What was the colour? I will reveal all when everybody has had a chance to read!

Thanks for listening.

Although black is not really a colour, that is all I could come up with.

Sorry David, posted this original reply to your comment in the wrong thread. This is what it said...."Thanks David for reading! Its not black though. Keep guessing! I should have offered cuddly toys as prizes!" :)

This is a very good, elusive decription, Julian ... purple.

Very good Julian, I read it three times and still I have not an educated guess. I was trying to think back to Art class, but to no avail - my guess is white - only because I don't have a box of crayons in front of me to take out all the colors you listed in the poem. Only thing that makes sense to me is that when grey fades all that is left is white.

I am looking foward to the answer to your riddle. Blessings to you! Teresa

Well here is the answer that nobody has been waiting for! lol Congratulations to Teresa, the colour described is indeed "white". The idea was a blank canvas being invaded by the artist's paint and colours. Might make sense if you have time to read it again! Anyway..well done Teresa...An imaginary prize is winging its way to you! Thanks to anyone who read the poem and had a try! Julian
