Katie Price returned to the jungle kicking up a stink, literally. The show's producers ensured Katie made a dramatic entrance, setting her a task of collecting stars for the camp, which involved swimming in dirty, smelly, rotten water.
The majority of the show revolved around Jordan 's jungle return and it was pure soap opera. Ant and Dec bubbled with their usual enthusiasm and the other contestants (yes, there really are other "celebrities" on the programme) were interviewed about her imminent appearance with a mixture of fear, apprehension and excitement.
ITV cleverly realise that we are perhaps at the height of Katie Price fever and jumped at the chance to woo her back to the jungles of Australia and snag those all important viewing figures.
Unless some sort of miracle occurs, people will watch in droves for as long as Katie remains on the show. There was very little surprise that on her very first morning in camp, she was chosen by the British public to undertake the day's bushtucker trial. (Harrowing tasks involving daring stunts or battling creepy crawlies and often targeting obvious human phobias) It would be a relative shock if this pattern does not continue until she is either voted out or becomes queen of the jungle.
Men will vote for her because, well, they are men and women will vote for her because they hate her or support her and long to see her fail miserably or succeed triumphantly as they scream at their television sets. For her to be loved and hated, cheered and jeered is what publicity dreams are made of.
Spare a thought for the other contestants; I am sure most were blissfully unaware of Jordan 's participation when they signed on the dotted line. If they were seeking a little attention of their own, they are now going to have to work a little harder for their fifteen minutes of fame.
It may appear that Christmas pantomime season has arrived a little early this year and perhaps in some ways this is the most public and most attended pantomime ever but rest assured this is very much the new Katie Price show.
