Google has just announced its Christmas gift to application lovers everywhere in the shape of Google Goggles! Don't worry, it's not simply a case of branded sunglasses but a new super duper tool, set to change the face of the internet can be used once again.

If you have a cell or mobile phone that runs Android (operating system) then you are going to have access to Google Goggles or Google Visual Search. The basic premise is to allow you to take a picture of something, let's say a location or a landmark which then triggers a Google search, feeding you lots more info about the picture you have just taken.

As the term Google Visual Search implies, rather than having to key in a search term you will be able to simply take a photo and within a second or two have all the information you are looking for regarding the subject of the picture. Of course this is very much a technology in progress and whilst it may work fine with things like landmarks, it's apparently not so hot with things like people and animals yet.

Now there's a scary technology idea, that you could take a picture of someone and be fed all kinds of information about them within seconds. Are we not heading towards James Bond territory with all this? Imagine what the paparazzi could do with that when they take pictures of celebrities and politicians.

So, Google Goggles announced just in time for Christmas! The library of Google applications is growing rapidly with the likes of Google Earth, Maps, Wave and AdSense to name but a few.
