Actress Brittany Murphy's sudden death from suspected cardiac arrest is likely to pose more questions than answers, as rumours of dietary problems and drug abuse that usually surround the death of any celebrity, dominate the news columns. So, how about we take a brief look at a career that promised much and already delivered great performances?

Even though Murphy's movie career seemed to have taken a wrong turn somewhere in recent years, there is no denying her talent as an actress and that she always lit up the screen in whatever movie she was in, even the bad ones!

Though her biggest movie credits seem to be remembered as drama "8 Mile" alongside Eminem and perhaps the comedy "Just Married" with Ashton Kutcher, along with an early role in "Clueless" with Alicia Silverstone, I think many critics would agree that one of her brightest and most mature performances was in the psychological thriller, "Don't Say A Word" with Michael Douglas, Sean Bean and Famke Janssen. Brittany Murphy played a tormented, traumatised girl with such eerie skill; she was clearly the best thing in a fairly decent thriller.

Angelina Jolie won an Oscar for her role in "Girl Interrupted" but here too Brittany Murphy was a class act and these couple of movies seemed to promise a massively successful career as a Hollywood leading lady. She also appeared in the drug addled, mature movie called "Spun" with Mickey Rourke, which got plenty of headlines for its controversial content and alongside an all star cast in the now cult classic, "Sin City" as recently as 2005.

Strangely, it's since "Sin City" that the wonderful actress' career seems to have lost its way somewhat, with perhaps voice work in the animated penguin film, "Happy Feet" being the most high profile since, and a string of less successful indie movies disappearing off the radar. Why did the great roles dry up for the brilliant Murphy? Perhaps we will never know, such is the fickle nature of the movie industry but we can look back, enjoy and celebrate the performances of such a gifted young actress who has tragically been taken away at the age of just 32.

Rest in Peace Brittany Murphy.

Its such a shame to die so young! Strangely great artistes have a propensity to do so take for instance, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and lastely Heath Ledger!
