Losing your hair can be and is often a traumatic event, no matter how old you are, what stage of life you may be at or whatever the cause of baldness, whether it be hereditary or another hair loss cause. Seeing your hair slowly (or sometimes quickly) disappear can be shocking and very hard to cope with, especially if you are young and have to face school friends or college and university buddies.
1. Acceptance - It's Okay to Go Bald
The first step is also the hardest. Realising you are losing your hair is one thing, accepting it, is another! When I first started losing my hair, I panicked, I stressed and I was devastated every morning when I awoke to find my pillow covered in yet more hair. I was seventeen after all! What would my friends say? How would people react to me? Would it make me less attractive?
My friends were fine with it and so will yours be, if they are true friends. People didn't seem to react any differently to me, so that was good. In all honesty, most people have a truck load of their own worries to deal with, so a friend going bald isn't a big deal to many of them. My interaction with girls didn't seem to suffer either, so that was another fear allayed.
The battle was an inner one now then. To accept, that despite my hair loss that I was exactly the same person, with the same personality, that I could still make my friends laugh, my loved ones still loved me, so it really might be okay to go bald!
2. Bald Humour - Lightening the Mood is the Quickest Way to Accept Your Hair Loss.
Be the first person to tell a bald joke! Being able to laugh at yourself (not in a cruel and cynical way) and your own limitations can often be an ice breaker and indeed the first step on the road to humility, so why not embrace your baldness with humour. You are not alone; in fact there are millions and millions of people around the world dealing with exactly the same problems as you, not to mention the many bald celebrities who remain successful in their field and sex symbols too! Bruce Willis, Vin Diesel, Patrick Stewart, Sir Ben Kingsley, Samuel L. Jackson and Andre Agassi are just a few. You are in illustrious balding company.
3. Bald Style - Everybody Wants What You Have
Being bald or having a very, very short hair cut is fashionable. Celebrities, catwalk fashion models and hairy men the world over are shaving off their hair for that quintessential "bald" look. There are ways in which you can look and be fashionable too. If your hair has begun receding or if you have a bald spot on the top of your head, then often a simple shave later will give you the trendy hair cut that is in demand!
So, there it is. Not only is it okay to be bald it's downright cool! No more bad hair days (unless you end up with that "avoid at all costs" comb over look!), no more waking up in the morning with half of your hair going one way and the remainder the other, no more of that wash and go shampoo (it already went!) and no more hair dryers and expensive hair products to buy. It's a win/win situation really, so go ahead be bold and be bald.

He had realized he was losing his hair. I am going to print a copy of your article and send it to him. Thank you! Some of the sexiest men I've known have been bald. I agree Julian, be bold, go bald! Bald can be beautiful. Thanks Brianna, It's always nice when an article can help or perhaps even inspire someone else. I hope your son can gain at least a little encouragement from it. It's perhaps one of those subjects not tackled very often and yet so many are going to go through it. Thanks again, much appreciated. Julian
