Santa’s Christmas parade around our local village used to be a thing of wonder, at least that’s how I remember it as a kid.
Christmas music hanging on a winter breeze and drifting across the streets and houses as Santa himself, sat high upon a large truck, magically decorated, twinkling and sparkling in the cold night sky. Hundreds of kids excitedly following as Santa’s helpers handed out small gifts and candy and the build up to Christmas was officially under way!
The music barely whimpered from the speakers and there were barely a dozen people that followed in the procession and none of them were small children! Two of the “crowd” were police officers, riding in a vehicle that was considerably more spacious than the one Father Christmas was in.
Now, this is not New York City or any city for that matter, this a village in a rural area where Santa needs a police escort. Why? Well, because in recent years, youths have chosen to use the parade as an opportunity to throw missiles at Santa and his mode transport of choice. Okay, so missiles have mostly been made up of eggs and a snowball, if there has been snow on the ground, but really, why?!
I wonder if there was any point at all to the parade this year. The world financial crisis clearly taking its toll on small communities but this was just embarrassing and perhaps if all we do is throw eggs at Santa, we don’t really deserve a parade anyway.
I am a huge fan of Santa Claus but I think no Santa at all would have been better than this!

Yeah Julian Santa just isn't what he use to be for kids anyway. Thanks for reading David!
I can not believe what you just said, that is amazing. I don't recall seeing that type of disrespectful assembly in the U.S. since the protests of the Vietnam war. Most people would just ignore something that they did not agree with, as opposed to ruining it for others. What has brought that about? Any idea?Hi David, Thanks for reading. I don't really know why that would happen, but there does seem to be just a gradual decline in common decency generally. Thanks again for reading.
