The Australian Open Tennis tournament is wide open this year, with former champions Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal crashing out in the semi’s and quarter’s respectively. Andy Murray, probably the best player on the ATP tour still without a Grand Slam win has probably his best chance ever to take that first major title.
A runner up in Australia in 2010, Murray will be hoping to go one step better this year, but he still has to overcome Spanish 7thseed David Ferrer in the Semi Final with Novak Djokovic, the World number 3 awaiting the winner of that clash, in the Final.
Often unfairly criticised for not yet winning a major, Murray will go into his semi-final match against Ferrer full of confidence following some fantastic displays in Melbourne so far. Probably already the greatest British player ever (debate?), there will be millions of Brits cheering him on in the early hours of Friday morning. Meanwhile, his opponent, David Ferrer will be hoping to reach his first ever Grand Slam Final.
Andy Murray’s dreams of Grand Slam glory are still alive after fighting back from the brink of defeat against Serbian Viktor Troicki in the French Open 4thround at Roland Garros 2011. Fighting back from 2 sets down to level the match, and then from a break down in the final set to seal his place in the Quarter Finals, Murray eventually prevailed with a determined and gritty, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 win. (Update 31.05.11)
Beating Rafael Nadal was once again a step too far for Andy Murray, as Nadal claimed a straight sets semi final victory at the 2011 French Open. Murray played well but failed to convert a string of break points which could have made a difference. The result 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 in favour of the Spanish World number 1.
Nadal will play either Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic in the final at Roland Garros. (Updated 03.06.11)

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)So, Andy Murray reaches his 3rd Grand Slam final and his 2nd Australian Open final after a battling 4 set victory over David Ferrer. Novak Djokovic who has previously won the title in Melbourne awaits Murray in the final on Sunday. Well done Andy!
Andy Murray just seems not to be the finisher when it comes to grabbing on to that crown. I still think Djokovic might get a bit better, although would love to see Andy play the best tennis of his career to get his hands on his first Grand Slam.
I just think it's time my favourite Federer hung his rackets. I guess age is taking over soon and he has lost his hunger. He doesn't seem to be playing with the same passion and zeal as he used to before.Thank you very much for reading! If you are not following the Australian Open Live, Djokovic has just taken the first set in a very close match...so far! Thanks again!Djokovic is riding ahead having taken the second set too. :-)Game, Set and Match Djokovic! Fully deserved too, blew Murray away really...just too good on the day. Andy Murray has to keep believing though, he still has time to win a Grand Slam or two!I hope he will, but he seems to lose it in the end. These are the very players he has already defeated before. I couldn't watch it live, but I followed the live scores on the web. :-)
