Wayne Rooney’s stunning overhead kick on Saturday afternoon (February 12th) has not just had a major impact on the EPL (English Premier League) season but across the internet too! Sitting third on Google’s hot topic list this evening, the fantastic goal is going down a storm.

Love him or loathe him, support him or wish he played for your own team; Wayne Rooney’s winning goal against local rivals Manchester City is pretty special! The Red Devils striker has endured a torrid season, with loss in form seemingly coinciding with allegations about his private life and a bizarre transfer request saga that almost saw him leave Man United. Ironically, Man City was one of those teams that wanted to take the player.

If you are a soccer fan and haven’t seen the goal yet, you will! It’s already topping trends on Google, Twitter and YouTube. I don’t think I have ever seen as much internet coverage for a single goal scored... no matter how clever the bicycle kick was.

United went on to win the Manchester derby by 2-1 and opened up an eight point lead on their rivals, having played a game less. There may be some twists and turns left in the title race, but after Arsenal’s win against Wolves (with a double van Persie strike) it looks like it may be a two horse race.

For this weekend at least, it’s all about Wayne Rooney, although spare a thought for Nani, who supplied the sublime cross for Rooney in the first place.
