The royal first kiss (at least publicly as a married couple) between Prince William and his new bride Kate Middleton (who adopt the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, delighted the thousands of people who in some cases had camped out for several days just to get a glimpse of that one famous moment.

If you Google the phrase “Royal Kiss” you will already see thousands of entries for this one kiss alone and just as many images of the moment that is set to become iconic. The crowds bayed for the kiss and William and Kate duly obliged, although in slightly awkward fashion. It was a brief kiss but the crowds just lapped it up.

Until the kiss, all the talk had been about the Kate Middleton wedding dress! What would it look like? Who was it designed by? All the answers were revealed to an estimated watching worldwide audience of 2 billion people as first Kate stepped into the car to head to Westminster Abbey and then stepped out at the church itself and for those next few moments, the focus of millions was on one woman alone. The bride’s thoughts were likely elsewhere and probably just as well!

For the next hour the dress and Kate Middleton herself were scrutinised from every angle, as fashion gurus and the watching public made their own judgements. It appears the dress and Kate were indeed given a unanimous thumbs up!

So, the royal wedding is over, the honeymoon is to come but the wedding dress and the William and Kate balcony kiss will be talked about for days, weeks and even years.
